N-Acetyl-D-mannosamine
N-Acetyl-D-Mannosamine, referred to as ManNAc, is an amino hexose compound and an N-acetylated derivative of D-mannosamine. It is widely present in nature and is a precursor of sialic acid (such as N-acetylneuraminic acid, Neu5Ac) and a key intermediate in the synthesis of glycoproteins and glycolipids. It appears as a white crystalline powder, soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol and ether. It is an important compound in glycobiology research and also shows broad application prospects in drug development and disease treatment.
