MEK solvent (CAS 78-93-3), namely methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), also known as ethyl methyl ketone, is a commonly used organic solvent with the following main characteristics:

A colorless and transparent liquid with a volatile odor similar to acetone. This characteristic odor is typical of methyl ethyl ketone MEK solvent.
Soluble in water (solubility approximately 290 g/L at 20 ℃) and miscible with ethanol, diethyl ether, benzene, chloroform, and most oils, making MEK chemical highly versatile in industrial formulations.
The flash point is approximately −7 ℃ to −9 ℃. MEK CAS 78-93-3 is highly flammable, and its vapor can form explosive mixtures with air, with explosion limits of about 1.7%–11.4% (by volume).
With a boiling point of about 79.6 ℃, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) is less volatile than acetone and is classified as a medium-boiling ketone solvent.
Chemically stable under normal conditions; however, the -hydrogen atoms adjacent to the carbonyl group are relatively active and can undergo condensation and halogenation reactions. When reacting with strong oxidizing agents such as chromic acid, ethyl methyl ketone can be oxidized to acetic acid.
Classified as a low-toxicity solvent. High concentrations of MEK solvent vapors may have anesthetic effects, while contact with eyes and skin may cause mild irritation. Long-term exposure may affect the nervous system.
Due to these properties, methyl ethyl ketone uses are widespread in coatings, inks, adhesives, electronic cleaning processes, and lubricant dewaxing operations.
